Fanfare for Horn, Tuba and Piano
by Bruce Stark
Fanfare for Horn, Tuba and Piano was composed in 2017 for a commission by the Eastern Standard Trio, a delightful ensemble dedicated to encouraging new repertory for this combination of instruments. Propelled by an active and substantial piano part, the piece is, true to its title, an optimistic and celebratory work in which the horn and tuba--instruments that share many qualities due to their similar construction--alternate between playing passages in rhythmic unison and more conversational, contrapuntal writing. Also befitting its title, the piece is well-suited as a concert opener.
A special thanks goes to the Eastern Standard Trio for commissioning and championing this work.
