NEW HIGHLIGHTS 2020
Stark’s Sonata for Piano, commissioned by the Washington State MTA, was awarded Honorable Mention by the Music Teachers National Association in the 2019 MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year Award competition.
Bruce Stark is the winner of the 2019-2020 South Texas Brass Symposium Composition Competition, and on November 15, 2019 his Adagio and Allegro was performed by Karl Kemp (horn), Donald Pinson (trombone) and Shao-Shan Chen (piano) in Wolfe Recital Hall at Del Mar College, Texas.
Eastern Standard Trio championed Bruce Stark’s Fanfare for Horn, Tuba and Piano during a tour: January 26 at Ohio University, January 27 at Denison University, Iowa, January 28 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Duquesne University (Pennsylvania), and January 29 at Hiram College (Iowa). The work was commissioned by the ensemble in 2017. Members are Heidi Lucas (horn), Zach Collins (tuba) and Jacob Ertl (piano).
On February 2, 2020 Stephen O’Bent conducted a performance of Bruce Stark’s arrangement of We Shall Overcome (for trombone quartet, piano, 3 percussion and timpani), and Nearer My God, To Thee (trombone trio and piano) at First Congregational Church, Bellevue, WA
February 7, 2020: Anthony Spain conducted the Northwest Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Stark’s Symphonic Dances in their concert at Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien, Washington.
